A bushfire warning has been issued to the public after a grassfire broke out near Toowoomba.

The warning offered safety advice to residents and drivers in Karara, Leyburn and the surrounds, after a grass fire began burning on Toowoomba Karara Road, between Millmerran Road and Dalmere Road, in Leyburn.

A spokeswoman from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said four crews were initially called to the scene on Sunday about 11am, while 10 additional crews were on route.

Ground crews are also being assisted by a firefighting aircraft.

While the spokeswoman was unable to confirm the size of the grass fire, she said there was currently no threat to anyone or any properties.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said they were monitoring the situation.

Drivers may be impacted by road closures and delays due to the fire which is moving towards Karara.
