Driver escapes injury in highway truck rollover

UPDATE: Thirty-five cattle had to be put down after a semi-trailer rolled at Helidon.

The driver escaped injury when the cattle truck turned onto its side on an off-ramp of the Warrego Hwy just before 10am yesterday.

At least a dozen more cattle bolted from the crash over a railway line next to the highway, and were herded into a major road in Helidon.

An Emergency Services spokeswoman said firefighters were on the scene until about 1.30pm.

"Sadly they had put down 35 cattle which were trapped inside the vehicle," she said.

"Some were already dead.

"They successfully righted the truck … they left the scene about 1.30pm."

WEDNESDAY 1PM: Emergency services have removed up to 30 cattle from the Warrego Hwy after they broke loose when a truck rolled near Helidon.

The crash has taken place on the Helidon exit. Up to 20 cattle are still trapped in the wreckage.

The driver of the truck was treated at the scene by paramedics.

It could take several hours for authorities to free the cattle from the wreckage and remove the truck.

WEDNESDAY 10AM: A truck has rolled on the Warrego Hwy just east of Toowoomba. Up to 30 cattle are loose and another 30 are trapped in the wreckage.

The semi-trailer rolled about 9.45am at Helidon in the eastbound lanes.

The driver of the truck is out of the wreckage. The truck is on its side.

Emergency services are on their way to the incident.

Motorist can expect some delays.
