Toowoomba police have arrested a man following a dramatic chase in the city involving police cars, Polair, and the use of tyre spikes.

Police said a 38-year-old man from Wilsonton Heights allegedly stole a Mitsubishi Triton about 7pm Friday night.

Witnesses alleged the man was driving erratically in the Glenvale area and at times driving on the wrong side of the road.

Polair was called in and began monitoring the situation shortly after 7pm.

Police were eventually forced to deploy a tyre deflation device and the car came to a stop on Anzac Avenue in Drayton shortly after.

Police said the driver then attempted to escape on foot but officers arrested him on Cambooya St.

He was taken to the Toowoomba watch-house and refused bail.

The man will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Saturday facing charges of unlawful use, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving without a licence.
