One of Toowoomba’s most prominent businessmen believes the upcoming $311m medicinal cannabis facility will take the region’s status as a major logistics hub to another level.
Toowoomba’s Wagner Corporation will play a key role in delivering the Asterion farm to the region, building key infrastructure like roads, bridges and power at its Wellcamp Business Park.
It also sold the land to the company for the project on a payment schedule.
Chairman John Wagner said the facility would only enhance the Wellcamp Airport’s reputation for delivering key exports.
“I think it’s just a fantastic project for a region — it’s going to be a big employer and exporter,” he said.
“We’re doing all the external roadworks, power and water supply and that forms part of the overall project cost — we’re really excited to be involved.
“It will really help to take the airport to another level.
”We’re ideally situated as an inland logistics centre and potentially an inland port to really capitalise on projects like this.”
Asterion CEO Stephen Van Deventer praised Mr Wagner for not only delivering the infrastructure but also assisting the Canadian company through Australia’s political and business environment.
“It’s the support we get from John Wagner to do with how to get things done in Australia — his expertise and support has been great.”
