A new childcare centre could be coming to Toowoomba’s western suburbs, after plans were lodged for an 80-place facility.

Developers Dallas Hunter and Leonie Jones submitted a proposal for a new centre on Taylor St in Wilsonton, not far from Wyalla Plaza.

In the planning report, Mr Hunter said the new childcare centre would cover nearly 2000sq m of the site and feature 24 car parks.

The centre itself would include a number of learning spaces and covered play areas.

“The configuration of the development will be one detached single level building comprising five main care rooms with office, kitchen, dining room and amenities,” he wrote.

“The site is currently cleared vacant land and was occupied by a detached dwelling and former horse stables.

“The building construction of this development will mostly comprise brick veneer or cladded timber frame external wall and Colorbond corrugated sheet-metal hip and skillion roofs.”

Mr Hunter argued the centre, which would be located in a low-medium residential centre, would service the surrounding community.

“The proposed use will contribute to the range of domestic services in this residential area and will make a positive contribution to the liveability of the neighbourhood,” he wrote.

“The proposed use contributes to the amenity of the residential use within the low-medium density residential zone.

“The scale and density of development facilitates an efficient land use pattern that supports compact and walkable neighbourhoods that are well connected to employment nodes, centres, open space and recreational areas, community services and educational opportunities.”

Because the application is impact-assessable, a public notification period will need to be run after Toowoomba Regional Council has completed its information request.
