A set of units capable of housing up to 16 more residents has been approved for a busy street in Toowoomba’s northern suburbs.
The council’s planning department gave the green light last week to a proposal by Cavanagh Holdings Pty Ltd to build eight two-bedroom units on Mort Street in North Toowoomba.
The structure will include six units on the first storey, and another two on the second storey, covering nearly 700 sqm.
The plan includes spaces for nine car parks.
According to the assessment report by council planning officer Geoff Reid, the units will replace a detached dwelling currently on the site.
Mr Reid found while the proposal didn’t meet a number of assessment benchmarks, it did meet relevant “performance outcomes” or could be conditioned to comply.
“On this basis, the proposed development is recommended for approval subject to the conditions in the recommendation,” he wrote.
The council included 80 conditions for the developer to follow as part of the project’s approval.
