A plan for a massive $25m health and wellbeing precinct has been given the green light to be built in Toowoomba’s burgeoning western suburbs.

Developers Rob and Cathy Weymouth hope to soon start work on the three-stage project, slated for an L-shaped block of land bordering both South and Greenwattle Streets in Glenvale.

The project, which wraps around the existing bowling alley on the corner, includes a medical centre with GP, dentist, pharmacy, x-ray and pathology professionals in its first stage and allied health services like physiotherapy in the second phase.

It is tipped to provide major primary and secondary health services for a growing part of Toowoomba.

But Mr Weymouth said the plan also included specialist disability accommodation units for 31 residents on the National Disability Insurance Scheme, a move that would meet a significant shortfall.

“All up, it’s a $25m health and wellbeing precinct,” he said.

“In the first stage we’ve got approval for is a medical centre, so it’s got doctors, dentist, chemist, X-Ray and pathology services.

“On another 5000 sqm of site area, we’re going to put in NDIS accommodation — there’s a massive shortage of accommodation there.

“It’s like a full health and wellbeing development, because it’s all in the one place.

“Council had some input into in the final design and I’m really happy with the outcome.”

Mr Weymouth said the couple would prioritise the second and third phases first to meet market demands.

“We’ve got really good tenants for stages two and three and I’ve got really good users for the accommodation — I’ll lodge a code-assessable DA for the stages two and three,” he said.

“I’m not in a race, I’m doing what my tenants want and what’s being pushed by the market.

“I believe in the area, it’s growing so fast, you’ve seen what’s been happening (in Glenvale).”

It comes as fellow local developers Barry and Mitchell Bernoth start construction on a new pharmacy and GP clinic just up the road on Greenwattle Street.
