An interstate developer has revealed plans to build a major new childcare centre opposite one of Toowoomba’s largest shopping precincts.
South Australia’s Accord Property has lodged plans with the Toowoomba Regional Council to build a 138-place facility on Kirra Street in Wilsonton.
The land, which is owned by noted local developer Clive Berghofer, is directly opposite Wilsonton Shopping Centre on its northern side and is just around the corner from an existing childcare centre.
According to the planning report by Property Projects Australia, the new centre will operate from 6am until 7pm and include more than 35 car parks.
Its 880 sqm interior space will be supported by nearly 1000 sqm of outdoor play area.
The application also included reports into noise impacts, stormwater, landscaping and traffic, which argued the proposal could comply with the council’s planning scheme with appropriate conditions.
“The noise assessment undertaken demonstrates that the proposed childcare centre development can comply with the relevant noise criteria with … recommended acoustic barriers,” the noise impact report by MWA Environmental said.
Because it is code-assessable, no public notification campaign will need to be run by the applicant.
If approved, it would become the fourth childcare centre built in Wilsonton.
According to its website, Accord Property specialises in developing and building assets like fuel stations, student accommodation, medical and retail, shopping centres and industrial spaces.
Regarding childcare, the firm has delivered more than 20 centres across the country, with an approximate value of $100m.
“Our team has an acute understanding of this sector and has harnessed strong ongoing tenant relationships which has resulted in multi-site developments,” the website said.
The council has yet to respond to the application with an information request.
