Toowoomba CBD units set to finish ahead of schedule by Hutchinson Builders as view revealed in crane photos

It’s a view that very few Toowoomba residents currently have — but that's about to change. Here’s what life could be like at the top of the CBD’s newest unit development.

The view of the Toowoomba CBD that Hutchinson Builders site manager Damian Mills has from atop a crane is what the city’s newest unit owners will soon be able to experience.

Mr Mills and his team are on track to finish work early on the potentially trendsetting unit project on Mylne Street, which is just metres from Grand Central Shopping Centre.

At nearly 15m tall, the new 12-unit development by locals Barry and Mitchell Bernoth could trigger a wave of inner-city living across Toowoomba.

It’s not the only unit project proposed for Mylne Street and it’s not even the only one on the block; the council has agreed to sell adjacent land to create social housing.

Hutchinson Builders team leader Sean Lees said the major contractor was hoping to finish the $5m project ahead of schedule in the new year.

“We’re working on the third floor now and the process has been wonderful,” he said.

“It’s been pretty smooth and so far so good.

“It looks like we might deliver it a little earlier than we previously thought at this stage.”

Central to the construction of the residential development is an in-ground Hutchies crane that has been used for weeks to move heavy materials to the top floors.

Mr Lees said the height of the crane, which was amazingly installed in less than a day, gave residents a good idea of the top-floor unit dwellers would have.

“You get a good sense of the perspective and outlook the owners and occupants are going to have when it’s completed, and that’s pretty special and a bit unique,” he said.

“In terms of it shaping the CBD, I think it’s something that the city is wanting and will benefit from.”

Mr Lees said more than 500 jobs would be supported across the life of the six-month project.
