Plans have been lodged with Toowoomba Regional Council for the development of a residential care facility on land at 60 Hogg St, Rockville.

The proponent, Sandsky Developments, is seeking approval for the development of four two-bedroom units, specifically designed to cater for disabled or semi-disabled residents and their overnight carers.

The purpose of the buildings will be to accommodate disabled and semi-disabled community members who wish to live as independently as they can but who need assistance in daily activities.

According to documents lodged with the council, the units have been designed by Sandsky Developments in line with the NDIS specialist disability accommodation design standard for internal layout and specialised fittings.

“Each dwelling will cater for two residents and have a separate room for office or overnight accommodation for a carer or nurse as the need arises,” documents said.

“The residential care facility will be run by a single operator, and care of residents will be a co-ordinated and supervised approach.”

The plans also include the subdivision of the land into one 2618sq m lot on which the units will be built, and a balance lot of 973 sq m around the existing house fronting Hogg St.

Access to the units is planned to be from Chopin St.

The developer has plans to restore the Hogg St house.

The council is assessing the proposal.
