The developer behind an upcoming fast food precinct in Toowoomba’s western suburbs has been approved for a series of changes to the original design.
Applicant Harristown Childcare Trust submitted new plans to the council late last year to alter the design of the five-tenancy food and drink outlet on Anzac Avenue in Harristown, which was dubbed “Eat Street” by proponents.
The original development proposal, which included a stand-alone tenancy near the corner of Anzac Avenue and Devine Street as well as outlets placed next to each other, was approved at a special council meeting in February 2020, despite concerns expressed by neighbouring residents.
In his latest assessment report, TRC planner Krys den Hertog said the applicant now wanted to make several changes.
These included breaking the development into two stages, removing of shared public toilets, getting rid of most of the outdoor dining, the reduction of vehicle queuing at the stand-alone tenancy’s drive-through by reducing it to one lane and increasing the number of car parks.
The alterations would reduce the gross floor area from 730 sqm to 583 sqm, consequently reducing the infrastructure charges bill.
Mr den Hertog recommended the changes be approved.
It is still unclear when construction will start on the project.
