A popular fast-food restaurant on the Warrego Highway east of Toowoomba will be closed for the next six months as part of a major revamp of the service station to which its attached.
The McDonald’s at College View in the Lockyer Valley, not far from Gatton, won’t reopen until August due to the renovations being completed by Toowoomba’s FKG Group.
A spokeswoman for McDonald’s said all workers at the 24-hour restaurant had been offered positions at other locations.
“BP is making upgrades to its service station,” she said.
“McDonald’s Gatton will be closed until late August, while work is conducted.
“We look forward to welcoming customers back into the restaurant once it reopens.
“All employees were offered roles at nearby McDonald’s restaurants, including Gatton Central and Goodna.”
The spokeswoman said 20 roles were currently vacant at the nearby McDonald’s Gatton Central restaurant.
“McDonald’s Gatton Central is currently hiring over 20 full-time, part-time and casual roles,” she said.
“The restaurant recently extended its McDelivery and dining room trading hours to 24/7, which has opened up new job opportunities for the local community.
“We are looking to employ people of all ages and experience levels across a variety of crew, management, barista and maintenance roles.”
The service station works were first lodged and approved by the Lockyer Valley Regional Council back in 2019, before minor changes were also submitted.
According to the original town planning report, the project involved an expansion of services, including a fuel heavy vehicle refuelling section.
“The proposed development is seeking to expand the service station with improved access and movement including a dedicated heavy vehicle refuelling area and parking bays, partial demolition of the service station and redevelopment including a slight increase in gross floor area,” the report said.
“The light vehicle refuelling area will also benefit with improved access, movement, parking bays and landscaping.
“The fast food outlet component is not proposed to be altered as part of this development application.”
