McDonald’s Australia to create 220 jobs during construction, operation of new $5m Harlaxton restaurant in Toowoomba

Further details have been revealed about the upcoming new McDonald’s restaurant in Toowoomba.

McDonald’s will create more than 200 jobs during construction and operation of a new restaurant in Toowoomba.

Toowoomba’s newest McDonald’s restaurant will employ more than 200 people during construction and operation, but residents aren’t convinced another location is needed.

The fast food giant revealed plans for a new $5 million outlet on Ruthven Street in Harlaxton, just north of the Northpoint Shopping Centre.

“The proposed restaurant in North Toowoomba will inject over $5 million into the local economy and create 100 jobs during construction,” a McDonald’s Australia spokeswoman said.

“Once operational, the restaurant will create a further 120 jobs for the local community.

“The proposed restaurant will be run by a local licensee, who will play an active role in the community through providing jobs, training and development opportunities for local employees.”

Developer Ian Knox, who owns the land that would become the new new McDonald’s, said there was a clear need for one to cater for the northern suburbs.

But readers on The Chronicle’s Facebook page took a different approach, arguing the city was already well-serviced by the company.

“Absolutely. I have to drive for at least three minutes to get to my nearest Maccas. Unacceptable,” Bill Davidson wrote with a sarcastic tone.

“Seriously? I really don’t think Toowoomba needs another Maccas,” Em Kathleen also wrote.

The application has been submitted to the Toowoomba Regional Council, which will assess it against its planning scheme and impacts on the surrounding community.
