James St to reopen this weekend after months-long roadworks delayed by weather, historic finds

After being delayed several months, the Department of Transport and Main Roads has revealed when James St will reopen to traffic.

Historic discovery at roadworks site

Delayed several months, the Department of Transport and Main Roads says roadworks on James St as it crosses West Creek will finish shortly.

The department said the West Creek culvert upgrade site was expected to be open to traffic this weekend.

A spokesman for the department said there would be off-road works, such as landscaping and footpath installation, continuing into 2021.

“The project faced significant delays during construction due to cultural heritage findings and wet weather, which contributed to the new reopening date for James Street,” he said.

“We appreciate the community’s patience while we complete this important flood-resilience project and apologise for any inconvenience.”
