BREAKING: A 24-year-old man has been charged after a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 51-year-old woman on Christmas Day.

UPDATE: POLICE have revealed more details about the incident in which a 51-year-old woman was killed on the New England Highway on Christmas Day.
Officers were called to the New England Highway near the intersection of Tarong-Yarraman Rd about 11.40pm.
On arrival they found a woman deceased in the middle of the road.
A police statement revealed their preliminary investigations indicate a car was travelling northbound towards Yarraman when it allegedly collided with a woman who was sitting on the road.
Police also allege the driver attempted to flee the scene before crashing in a nearby paddock, and fleeing on foot.
As a result of their inquiries police took a man into custody in Maidenwell yesterday afternoon.
After appearing in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this morning, the 24-year-old Kingaroy man was remanded in custody to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on January 15.
Investigators are continuing to appeal for anyone travelling on the New England Highway between 11pm and 12.30am on December 25/26 to contact police.

A police media spokesman confirmed that officers arrested the man yesterday in Maidenwell.
Police will allege the man was driving a stolen vehicle at the time and did not stop to assist the woman, charging him with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and failing to stop at the scene of a road incident.
Early reports indicated the 51-year-old Yarraman woman was hit on the New England Highway near Yarraman by a passing vehicle before she was found deceased in the middle of the road by police at 11.40pm on Christmas Day.
The driver is appearing via video link in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this morning.
