WITH construction on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing surging ahead, calls have been made for toll prices to be published.

RACQ has demanded the incoming government publish toll prices motorists would face if they used the bypass once complete.

It has never been a secret the crossing would be a toll road but some people still don't like the idea of having to pay to use the $1.6 billion road.

The Chronicle asked its online readers what they thought was a fair toll price and there was a mixed reaction.

Matt Norton said: "It's not hard. Doesn't matter what the toll is. If it's too expensive don't use it."

Jay Ebert said: "Tolls are only meant to be in place until the road is paid for, fairly sure the Logan Motorway has been paid for many times over by now but they won't scrap the toll."

Peter Terrill said: "No toll is what is fair. It's our outrageous taxes are paying for the thing, and outrageous taxes will maintain it."

Joanna Schick said: "Can we please not have a toll? But if we are, keep it low. It's not fair, it is almost like a penalty to go on that road."

Vicki Duncan said: "I think motorists pay enough without another toll."

Andrew Blencowe said: "Using the bypass is not compulsory. Drivers will decide no matter what."

Samantha Hoffmann said: "Don't really know a price but as soon as the money is made back the tolls should be cut."

RACQ head of public policy Rebecca Michael said motorists, motorbike and truck drivers deserved to know.

"The alternative crossing of the range will improve road safety, congestion and relieve pressure on Toowoomba's roads but it will come at a cost," Dr Michael said.

"At 41km long, this is Queensland's longest toll road and it'll likely be the most expensive toll in the state. With the Second Range Crossing due to be completed late next year, it's about time motorists were informed."
