SANTA Claus better watch out, there's a new kid on the block.

It didn't take three-year-old Bailey Fitzgerald long to prove himself worthy of his new Santa costume, made with love by grandmother Vicki McFawn.

"Last year, I made him an elf outfit and this year I thought I'd make him a Santa one. He loved it and hasn't taken it off," Mrs McFawn said.

Since his promotion to the top of the Christmas workforce, the youngster has taken to Toowoomba's shopping centres to give out lollies and snap photos with shoppers.

"The original plan was to have our photos taken with Santa but it evolved. He got so much into character," she said.

"They were all surprised and commented on how cute he was."

Mrs McFawn is a nurse visiting her family from New South Wales and said Bailey was keen to keep spreading the Christmas cheer.

"Keep an eye out for him today at Grand Central," she said.
