A 32-year-old man has been arrested after a dramatic escape from NT Police allegedly involved a dash for an officer’s firearm and a dive into a lagoon.
At 2.20pm on Tuesday, police were made aware of a vehicle crashing “through a residential fence” at the corner of Daniel Circuit and Girraween Rd.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle still running but the alleged driver had fled on foot.
The officers soon found the driver who dived into a nearby lagoon and swim to the middle to avoid being apprehended.
A request for back-up and additional resources was made and the Search and Rescue Section helped provide a boat to help during the incident.
Police alleged during the arrest, the man attempted to grab an officer’s firearm but was blocked by the officer.
The man was arrested without further incident and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital to be checked over.
Police said investigations remain ongoing and have asked anyone with information to contact 131 444 and quote the reference number NTP2500059377.
