DONNA Lowe doesn't think she'd still be alive without her soulmate and new wife, Cindy Chapman.

After being diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago, the Inglewood woman was ready to throw in the towel.

"Without Cindy, I would never have done (the treatment) - I would've pulled out after the second round of chemo," she admitted.

The loving pair became Inglewood's first gay married couple yesterday, after tying the knot in front of more than 40 people at the Royal Hotel.

Donna, who took Cindy's last name, said they met about four years ago and almost instantly fell in love.

Despite some difficult times, Donna said her new wife had never left her side.

"She's my rock - she's everything," she said.

"All this (cancer diagnoses) hit in 2016, and I told her to run for the hills.

"She said she was staying. She is the most amazing woman I've ever met."

While there some inevitable dissenters in the town against the marriage, Donna said the Inglewood community had otherwise opened its heart to help the pair celebrate.

"Our bakehouse donated our wedding cake," she said.

"(The owners) of the hotel have lost business by closing their doors so we could have a private function.

"Everybody has always accepted us living together."

Cindy and Donna plan to go camping for their honeymoon.
