UPDATE: 2.45PM: Station officer Grant Hodges was relieved his crews did not need to cut anyone free from a head-on crash on a notorious stretch of the Warrego Hwy.
He said the four occupants of the two vehicles were lucky to not have been trapped or killed as he surveyed the carnage about 1km east of Zimm's Corner.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at 12.42pm.
They arrived to find a woman aged about 45 with leg and chest injuries, a woman aged about 35 with seatbelt injuries, a woman aged about 25 with soft tissue injuries and a man aged about 25 with arm and seatbelt injuries.
The patients were taken to Toowoomba Hospital.
"It appears to be a head-on impact at quite a high speed," Mr Hodges said.
Mr Hodges reminded motorists to be mindful on the roads during the holiday season.
He conceded the section of highway had a high rate of crashes.
"Anywhere between Toowoomba and Oakey seems to be a bit of a hotspot."
