A five month misconduct investigation into the behaviour of an “unknown councillor” by the Office of the independent Assessor has been finalised.
The OIA began its investigation on September 17 last year after a complaint that “an unknown councillor has engaged in harassment of council staff and members of the public”.
The complaint did not name the councillor.
But the councillor conduct watchdog closed its investigation on January 19, 2021, after it was “unable to obtain any corroborating evidence to support the allegations”, according to Toowoomba Regional Council’s councillor conduct register.
“Witnesses subject to the alleged harassment were approached by the OIA and did not wish to take this matter any further.”
The OIA said it decided not to take further action on the basis that the conduct did not raise a reasonable suspicion of inappropriate conduct or misconduct.
