THE Toowoomba Regional Council undertook a significant planning strategy in 2010 to provide a framework for the delivery of the Toowoomba City Centre Master Plan.

The strategy provides a blueprint for the growth of the CBD until 2031.

It identifies a number of catalytic projects which will transform the inner city, including the civic precinct, the Grand Central sub-precinct and the inner-circulating road.

A laneway strategy to activate the city centre's laneways and an open space master plan were also identified as part of the planning process.

Streetscaping, civic beautification and public infrastructure projects across the CBD will also be initiated as the need arises as the strategy was designed to be flexible as the city continues to grow.

Planning and development committee chair councillor Chris Tait said it was an exciting time in Toowoomba history.

"The city has taken great strides in the past few years with the two-waying of Russell St, the development of the outer circulating road, the building of the new library, the activation of Civic Square, the opening of Kwong Sang Walk, to name a number of projects.

"The next 12 months are also looking as exciting with the opening of the QIC Grand Centre development, the ongoing transformation of Walton Stores and the streetscaping projects in the northern part of the CBD.

"Council is very excited to be working with State and Federal government departments and private investors to bring in more investment to the city."
