Toowoomba Hospice the latest recipient of Clive’s generosity

Mr Berghofer’s generous support of the Toowoomba Hospice goes back to its inception 17 years ago.

Clive's generous donation to hospice

CLIVE Berghofer really is the philanthropist who keeps on giving.

Toowoomba’s most generous citizen has donated more than $110 million to various causes, including more than $80 million to health organisations.

And, the Toowoomba Hospice has been the most recent recipient of the generosity of Mr Berghofer who has sponsored three rooms at the care facility for the next two years.

Included in the sponsorship was $20,000 for new state-of-the art beds for the rooms.

“You can’t buy health, and as you get older you realise you need good health facilities,” Mr Berghofer said.

Mr Berghofer’s association with the Toowoomba Hospice goes back to its beginnings.

“Clive chipped in $200,000 when we were building the hospice 17 years ago,” explained hospice chairman Graham Barron.

“Clive has sponsored the rooms through our Adopt a Room program which helps with the upkeep of the place.

“Through the Adopt a Room program we’ve painted the place three times in the past 17 years and had new carpet put down.”

Toowoomba Hospice director of nursing Eugenie Corbett said the new beds were a blessing for the hospice.

“They are much safer to move around and easier to clean,” she said.

“This bed also has an alert system.”

Mr Berghofer supports a number of health organisations including St Vincent’s Hospital in Toowoomba, Ronald McDonald House in Brisbane as well as the LifeLight helicopter service.

“I got a message from a family recently that said ‘Thank-you for saving our baby’s life’,” Mr Berghofer said.

“When you get a letter like that it makes you feel so good.”
