TOOWOOMBA and Downs people looking for a break in the weather and some respite from this relentless downpour might have to wait for the start of the working week.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) forecasters reckon we might be up for even increased rainfall tonight here up on the Range.

“It will be much of the same today,” explained BOM meteorologist Helen Kirkup.

“It’s being driven by an upper level system and it could continue throughout the day and it could even increase tonight and overnight.

“Toowoomba might see it clearing tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.”

Those who have come through drought and have for years prayed for rain are having all their prayers answered at once – literally.

Ms Kirkup said depending on what thunderstorms might turn up, Toowoomba and surrounds could see another 150 to 200mm dropped on the city before this system moves away.

For the 24 hours to 9am Saturday, some Toowoomba suburbs had 146mm while Highfields recorded 170mm and Spring Bluff 158mm.

Police and emergency services have reiterated warnings to motorists to drive to the conditions and if flooded, forget it.
