A special vigil for Toowoomba crash victim and devoted activist Thomas Coyne will now go ahead on Wednesday after discussions with his family.

The candlelight vigil and the lighting of the Victoria Street bridge had been planned for the McCrum Lane car park, near Chalk Drive, in the CBD from 5.15pm.

It was being organised by Toowoomba Councillor Megan O’Hara Sullivan, who cancelled it on Tuesday night “out of respect for Thomas’ grieving family”.

Now local Greens figure Alyce Nelligan has revealed the vigil will go ahead at the same location and at the same time.

“After much discussion and consultation with Tom’s mother Jo Coyne we have decided to continue with the vigil tonight — she has given us her blessing. Same time, same place,” Ms Nelligan wrote.

“Let’s make this a beautiful outpouring of love for a very wonderful person.

“Please note Jo’s privacy needs to be respected at the event.”

Participants are encouraged to bring a candle to light.

Mr Coyne, who was a former Greens candidate and dedicated activist for marriage equality, died when his car crashed near Allora earlier this month.
