Showcase QCWA a hit with the public over two big days

90 years on the CWA legacy continues

WHEN COVID-19 forced the cancellation of this year’s Queensland Country Women’s Association conference, the Darling Downs Division decided to think outside the box.

So they thought – why not have something ourselves?

Showcasing themselves to the public for the first time in Toowoomba on Friday and Saturday, hundreds popped into the Rose Cottage in Newtown Park to see what the CWA is all about.

Darling Downs Division president Carol Jackson said the event also doubled as a fundraiser for the local branches, as COVID-19 had also curtailed their opportunities to generate funds for the CWA’s community service projects.

Mrs Jackson, who has been a member of the CWA for 30 years, said it was the social atmosphere, fun events, and camaraderie that kept her in the fold.

“I’d like to think we’re doing something for our women in the community,” she said.

The Showcase put on display competition entries for cookery, photography, patchwork, knitting and crochet, floral art, dressmaking, and more – and there were plenty of scones and jam on offer too.
