Kate’s Place at Middle Ridge is open to expressions of interest from between 10 and 12 organisations that would like to obtain the lifesaving device, which can cost $2400 each.
The idea was started by former owner Noel Davies and is being supported by the current owner and his daughter Katie Gillmore.
Mr Davies said he was inspired to act after seeing defibrillators more often in other countries.
“We want to put them in places where people need them and where they could be useful,” he said.
“They’re not as visible as they are overseas, such as in Japan.
“Small community groups might not have the money for one (so) we want to find locations for at least 10 of them.”
Mr Davies said the devices were becoming more user-friendly, which could help people who might have never used them before.
“Technology has improved with them and they are an asset,” he said.
“Even someone who hasn’t used it can pull it off the wall and it will instruct you.”
Mrs Gillmore said she would love to see other businesses and community groups take up the offer if they needed it.
