A family-friendly atmosphere welcomed those taking part in this year’s Peak2Park event, with more than 2000 braving the early morning fog to hit the road for the annual event.
After last year’s event was cancelled due to Covid, and this year’s run postponed due to torrential rain, there was no stopping Skye Turner and her family taking part in the 4km run from Picnic Point to Lake Annand Park.
The 2022 event was the first time the whole family had taken part in the run, which first started 16 years ago.
“I’ve been doing it since 2018 and this year was the second time my eldest had ran it and the first time my youngest had run the 4km,” Ms Turner said.
“It’s fun and nice to be able to do something as a family and it’s all for a good cause.”
Willows Health managing director and Peak2Park organiser Troy Morgan said this year’s event has helped their fundraising efforts over the past 15 events tick past the $500,000 mark.
“With volunteers and participants combined we had more than 2000 people, and an offshoot of people getting together is raising money for the Toowoomba community,” he said.
“We had one mother who first ran with her daughter in a pram, and this year she did the 10km with her daughter as a 16-year-old so it’s great to see it become a part of the Toowoomba community.”
