The organisers behind one of Toowoomba’s newest black tie charity dinners says the event’s second edition has secured its place on the social calendar, raising more than $200,000 for a city organisation in the process.
More than 450 people packed out the Toowoomba CBD’s Railway Goods Shed on Saturday for Gather and Graze.
With the venue beautifully decorated by Dairy Hiring Shed and Harold’s Finishing Touches, guests helped auction off a number of items and one patron even made an anonymous donation of $100,000.
Gather and Graze committee member Michael Valdal said all funds would go towards Hope Horizons, which supports people living with cancer and their families through a variety of services.
“Our goal was $150,000 but we’ve raised more than $200,000 – we’re just so overwhelmed by the money raised,” he said.
“We also had a few anonymous donations, including one of $100,000.
“We put it out to the community (to pick the next charity), we just had a lot of feedback on the need for a cancer wellness centre.
“We had over 40 people contact us and asking us to choose Hope Horizons and the support we’ve had from them has been incredible.”
After twice delaying the inaugural event due to Covid-19 before eventually holding it last year in support of Drought Angels, Mr Valdal said the committee wanted to run it every year.
“I think now that we’re being known for the event, people are spreading the word,” he said.
“The first two years there was a lot of advertising but we’ve proven ourselves.”
