For Excavation Equipment general manager Catherine Ardi, being awarded Business of the Year at the Focus HR Business Excellence Awards was a “complete shock”.
The Carrington Road business took out the top gong at the awards on Saturday before a crowd of the who’s who of the Toowoomba region’s business leaders.
“It was totally unexpected,” Mrs Ardi said.
“It was just a treat to be a finalist in three categories but to win it was unexpected.
“This is really for the staff and I can’t wait to take the trophy into work to show the staff.
“We have about 25 staff from the workshop, admin staff and the drivers and they will appreciate being recognised and celebrated.
“It means a lot to be recognised by your peers and the community.”
Other major award winners on the night included Hogans Family Jewellers which was also inducted into the Hall of Fame with the CEO’s Award going to X Factor Plumbing.
Awards night attendees gathered in a specially artificially grassed area of the Rumours International car park for some pre-event drinks and a catch up before moving inside for the dinner and awards ceremony.
“The menu and beverages were sourced through local and regional suppliers by head chef of Rumours International Penny Heley,” Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce president Kate Venables said.
“The event was all about the local businesses who stole the show by upholding the city’s business reputation of excellence and elevating their personal brands.”
