MORT & Co staff are celebrating taking out the Best of the Best award at The Focus HR Business Excellence Awards 2021 in Toowoomba.
Presented by the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, the awards recognised innovation, achievement, and successes of the local business community and showcase the diversity and dedication of the Toowoomba business community.
This year’s awards welcomed more than 700 nominations and 135 applicants.
Independent judge Pat Nunan said he was impressed by the work of the nominees.
“I have been overwhelmed by the security of community,” he said.
“I’m secure in the knowledge that those in the Toowoomba business community have been resilient, brave, and innovative.”
Toowoomba Chamber CEO Todd Rohl said Mort & Co had been a “standout”.
“While all nominees, applicants and finalists should be very proud of their achievements, there could be only one Business of the Year and this year Mort & Co was the standout.
“The judges remarked on their outstanding, high-performing business across the board with a noteworthy company culture considered them an industry leader in innovation.
“The overall gong followed their success on the night in the Gerry Doumany Export Award and Industry Award.”
Two new awards Micro-Trader of the Year and Sole Trader of the Year Award were also presented on the night.
The Sole Trader of the Year recognised the very best sole trader/owner-operator of the year.
The winner of this award is selected by a completely independent judging panel, with sole trader applicants that completed award submissions from the categories including tourism, hospitality, industry, professional services, retail, community and not-for-profit, innovation and technology, health and wellbeing, and Gerry Doumany Export and Best Regional Business considered for this award.
“The judges noted the winner Askafoodtech’s passion for his work, that he was a resolute food scientist and has a desire to assist other businesses to develop food products,” Mr Rohl said.
The Micro-Business of the Year award has also been introduced this year.
This award recognised the very best microbusiness – an entity with two to four employees – within the region and like previous awards, candidates were selected from applications across the primary 10 categories.
This year it was awarded to Watson’s Plumbing and Gas.
