Sons, daughters, dads and grandparents are encouraged to drop into the Endeavour Foundation Centenary Heights campus today and pick up a bunch of flowers for the special mum in their life.

The social enterprise has taken delivery of 1200 bunches ahead of Mother’s Day and will sell them to raise vital revenue for the social service.

For more than 30 years, Endeavour Foundation has cultivated a colourful crop of more than 70,000 chrysanthemum flowers at its Bundaberg site and ships them around the state in bundles of 10.

Endeavour Foundation’s executive general manager Eric Teed encouraged the community to get behind the sale.

“When you buy an Endeavour Foundation bunch for mum this year, you’re going to put a smile on her dial with a thoughtful gift,” he said.

“But you’re also giving the gift of employment.

“You ensure people who face barriers to employment have a job that works for them so they can experience all the physical, mental, and social benefits that come with it.”

Chrysanthemums have a long association with Mother’s Day, in part because it blooms in autumn, in the month of May.

The name ‘mum’ might be in their name, it is merely a happy coincidence as the names from the Greek words ‘chrysos’ meaning gold and ‘anthemion’ meaning flower.

Flowers can be purchased directly from Endeavour Foundation’s Toowoomba Social Enterprise at 201 Ramsay St, Centenary Heights today until 2pm or until sold out.
