Toowoomba is hosting its first Red Rose Rally of 2021 to honour the lives of three women killed due to domestic violence.

Toowoomba’s main domestic violence service will host its first Red Rose Rally of the year to remember three women killed recently because of domestic and family violence.
The Domestic Violence Action Centre will host silent vigils on March 5 from 12pm at Toowoomba City Hall, as well as the Ipswich Courthouse.
Participants are instructed to wear black and bring a red rose.
DVAC CEO Amie Carrington said the event would be to commemorate the lives of Queensland women Robyn Beever, Doreen Langham and Rebecca Walker – all of whom had been killed since December, including two just last week.
“It is really important that we stand as a community addressing the issues of domestic and family violence deaths in Australia,” she said.
“DVAC acknowledges that domestic violence related deaths have many predictive elements that are largely considered preventable, and it is unacceptable that in Australia a women is murdered every week by an intimate partner.
“This Friday we are holding a silent rally to acknowledge and remember the recent deaths of women.
“Three women have been murdered since December in Queensland.”
The rallies were started by the Red Rose Foundation, which seeks to highlight the pattern of behaviours displayed in domestic violence cases and find ways to stop them.
Varsity Lakes woman Robyn Beever was found dead on February 25, with her husband charged with her murder.
Doreen Langham was one of two people who died in a Browns Plains house fire on February 22.
It is understood she rang police daily about her ex-partner Gary Hely, who also died in the fire, in relation to him breaching his domestic violence order.
Townsville mother-of-three Rebecca Walker was found dead by her five-year-old son on December 22, along with the body of the boy’s father.
