Working closely with Cheap Cars Toowoomba, Lifeline Darling Downs identified the Crooks family as the recipient of this quarter’s car giveaway after their vehicle “blew up” four weeks ago.
The Crooks are now a proud owners of a second-hand Toyota Tarago, capable of fitting the entire family.
“It’s not every day you get help when you need it,” Mrs Crooks said.
“I have these two boys with special needs, and I have another two girls with their dad who has terminal cancer and another boy and girl who are married – and three grandkids, so the car’s going to be perfect.”
Mrs Crooks thanked Lifeline and Cheap Cars Toowoomba for their generosity.
“I just recommend to people, don’t be scared to ask for help, don’t be proud,” she said.
“Just get out there and ask because there are groups like Derek and Lifeline and everyone else that will help.”
Lifeline Darling Downs CEO Derek Tuffield said yesterday’s donation was the ninth car Cheap Cars Toowoomba had given away.
He said another one would be given away in three months time.
“If people are interested and they’re doing it tough at the moment, if they contact us on 1300 991 443 at Lifeline, we’ll take their names down.”
Cheap Cars Toowoomba manager Leslie Hollist said the business was extremely proud of what it had achieved over the past two years.
“To know we have helped make life a little easier for members of our community is a great feeling,” he said.
“We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Phil from Toowoomba Auto Fix who has worked to ensure this vehicle is roadworthy, as he has done with previous vehicles.”
