Located at shop four, Highfields Central (10517 New England Hwy), the store stocks everything from men’s, women’s and children’s clothes to bric-a-brac, books, and more, with the only exception being furniture.
The store has been in the pipeline for a couple of years, but Lifeline Darling Downs was never able to find the right spot.
So when a vacancy at the newly-built Highfields Central came up, the organisation leapt at the chance.
Lifeline Shop Highfields retail manager Karen Kerwitz said she was feeling excited about this morning’s first day of trade.
“There’s been a great response (from customers),” she said.
“I was managing the Range store at The Range Shopping Centre and I’ve had a few customers, very loyal customers who used to come up and patronise that store, and when they found out we were opening one in Highfields they couldn’t have been happier.
“It’s something the Highfields and great community out here have been looking forward to for some time.”
It’s taken a lot of hard work from staff and volunteers over the past week to get the store ready to trade.
The Highfields Lifeline Shop will be operating 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 2pm on Saturdays, but will be open longer if demand is there tomorrow.
The store will be closed on Sundays.
