Toowoomba community stalwart Clive Berghofer OAM has been short-listed as a finalist for the 2024 Queensland Philanthropy Awards.

The former Toowoomba mayor is one of three in the running for the Community Philanthropist award.

Mr Berghofer isn’t the only representative of the Garden City in contention for an award, with Worklocker Toowoomba a finalist in the SME Philanthropist category.

Winners of the seven award categories will be announced at the Queensland Philanthropy Week gala luncheon at Brisbane City Hall on Friday June 7, featuring special guest speaker Ash Barty.

Queensland Gives chief executive Tara Castle said a record number of nominations had been received this year, demonstrating the depth and breadth of change makers, philanthropists and givers throughout Queensland.

“Queensland is home to thousands of inspirational people and organisations who give their time, energy and donate generously to help others, and it’s terrific to see so many inspiring and impressive nominees for this year’s awards. It was a real challenge for our judges to choose three finalists for each category,” she said.

“Amazing work is being done by individuals, businesses, charities and foundations right across Queensland, which proves that philanthropy isn’t just about giving big lump sums of cash to a cause. It’s about volunteering, giving time and love and lending support, sometimes quite creatively, to those in need in whatever form you can.

“Being nominated in our Awards is a huge honour, and being recognised for making our world a better place should be celebrated. By recognising and shining a light on the amazing work being done by these people and organisations, we hope to inspire even more Queenslanders to join the cause and think about how they can support the wider community.”
