The future of Phat Burgers on Ruthven St has been in doubt since its building was sold late last year.

It was sold to developers who plan to turn the building into a retail precinct and apartment block.

Now, Phat Burgers in the CBD is closing after 10 years in business.

It has been an urban tourist destination in Toowoomba since it opened.

Burger lovers from all over the country have come to experience the unique flavours, with almost 500,000 burgers served.

But it is not all bad news with Phat Burgers Northpoint continuing to trade.

Co-owner Alan Wynn said he would miss the CBD store.

"I will miss the generations of customers who have enjoyed this shop, the games of chess being played, the kids feeding the fish and the unique customers from the farmer coming into town for the day to the musician coming in for his hangover brekky. We will all miss chewing the phat, but I will be at Northpoint so see you soon," he said.

Co-owner Richard May-Steers said Phat Burgers was far from dead.

"There has been some phat times and there are a lot of great memories here, but as always we will move forward onto bigger and better things," he said.

"Phats is far from dead - if you want the best burgers on the Darling Downs you will get it at our Northpoint store, or at one of the many festivals and events that we will still do pop ups."

The burger outlet will host a last hoorah party, The Wreckoning, which is described as a "party to end all parties".

There will be the famous Burghoffer eating competition, live music, an interactive spray painting exhibition supported by Kontraband as well as games.

It will be held on Saturday, June 3 from 1pm.
