A 35-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly rolling his car while hooning in Howard Springs with a blood alcohol reading nearly five times the legal limit.
The crash happened at the entrance of the Howard Springs Nature Park.
NT Police say the vehicle was being driven recklessly on an unsealed section when it lost control and rolled.
Three people were inside at the time.
The driver and two passengers — a 33-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man — managed to free themselves before emergency services arrived.
The passengers were taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital with minor injuries, while the driver was arrested at the scene.
He allegedly returned a breath test reading of 0.238 per cent, more than four times the 0.05 per cent legal limit.
His car was seized under NT’s anti-hooning laws, and he was later taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital for medical assessment.
He will face court at a later date, charged with high-range drink driving, hooning, and careless driving.
In a separate incident, police stopped a driver who was allegedly driving erratically at the intersection of Tiger Brennan Drive and Wishart Road.
Officers issued a traffic infringement and seized the vehicle after deeming it unsafe to drive.
Senior Sergeant Xavier McMahon said it was “incredibly fortunate” that last week’s crash had not resulted in a fatality.
“The number of lives lost on Territory roads currently stands at four, compared to 11 at this time last year,” he said.
“Police will continue to target irresponsible drivers who put others at risk.”
Authorities are urging drivers to take road safety seriously, with enforcement efforts continuing across the NT.
