Following the success of Cairns Cup Carnival Day One last week, thousands of racegoers are expected to flock to Cannon Park this weekend for the second day of the Cairns Cup Carnival.

With a range of events and activities on offer, there will be something for everyone on Saturday, August 24.

Red Beret Hotel Cairns Cup Carnival 2024 ambassador Dannielle Atkinson said the day would prove a hit for those looking for a day out on and off the track.

“We’ve got our Cairns Cup Carnival in full swing,” Ms Atkinson.

“We’ve had the barrier draw (on Wednesday night) and go into our luncheon and calcutta (on Friday) which is hosted by Ladbrokes, then we have our main event on Saturday, the Red Beret Hotel Cairns Cup and two feature races, Cairns Lightning and the Daintree Guineas.”

The Cairns Cup will be held at the Cairns Jockey Club this weekend, with nine races, Style Stakes fashions on the field competition and live bands playing throughout the day. Following on from last week’s Ladies Day style stakes — Ms Atkinson — who will judge this weekend’s Fashions on the Field events, said she was excited to see this week’s style stakes for the theme A Vintage Affair.

“Last week we has a really high standard set with some people flying in from all over the state to attend and it was a really high standard, so I’m excited to see that,” she said.

Cairns Jockey Club’s General Manager Cameron Riches said punters could expect a “cracking” day of racing on Saturday.

“There’s a few southern jockeys coming up like Georgina Cartwright and Robbie Dowey from NSW,” he said.

“There’s a number of local horses and we’d like to see a local winner.”

With most events sold out, limited tickets are still available for the Gordon’s Pink Gin Garden Part and Silks by Canadian Club.

Tickets for Cairns Cup Carnival Day Two, and the Sportsman Luncheon and Calcutta are available via the Cairns Jockey Club website.
