A man was fighting for life in Cairns Hospital after receiving a significant wound to his stomach.

Police are investigating after two people were injured following a disturbance at Manunda on Monday morning.

At around 5.30am, police were called to a property on Mayers St following reports of an altercation involving multiple people.

Upon arrival, police found a 38-year-old man with life-threatening wounds to his abdomen.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman confirmed a man was transported to Cairns Hospital with wounds to his abdomen, head and shoulder after paramedics were called to the scene of a stabbing at a private address.

Detective Inspector Jason Chetham said a second man in his 30s also sustained injuries to his head and torso and was found not too far away at a residence on Alfred Street.

“He was also transported to the Cairns Hospital,” he said.

Inspector Chetham said a crime scene was established at Mayers St and officers were interviewing witnesses.

“So we have witnesses at the station now helping us with our enquiries and we would certainly reach out to anyone that might have information on this particular matter,” he said.

“We believe that there was a female present at the scene but what her involvement was remains uncertian and we haven’t located her yet.

“She is a woman with an olive complexion and about 165cm tall, a heavy build and she had long dark hair.

“We think she could help us.”

Anyone with information or vision is urged to contact police.

A Cairns Hospital spokesman said the man with life-threatening stomach wounds on Thursday afternoon was in a serious but stable condition.

No charges have been laid.
