Looking after the farm for his grandmother, Sam Daly, guaranteed people would catch fish.
“You could throw a plastic bag in and you would catch one, they just like chomping on anything,” he said.
“They love catching shiny stuff that is just how they work.
“We just don’t want to have to cull them off, so we can sell them to people and give them some good protein, it’s much better.
“They are all very similar in size, they all grow up together and they range from 1-3kg but if you are lucky you can get them up to 4kg.”
The farm distributes table-sized fish throughout Australia and overseas servicing the restaurant industry and has operated for 30 years.
But Mr Daly said it was time for his family to move on.
“It’s my grandma’s farm and she sent me over to help her out cause she physically can’t do it herself anymore,” he said.
Located at 168 Stoney Creek Rd the Kuranda Fish Farm from next Saturday will be formally listed for sale.
The asking price for the 66Ha property which includes a residence and a series of at least 15 barra ponds starts at offers over $1.7m.
