Major roads connecting Gulf Country to the Tablelands have been closed due to heavy rain and flooding over the weekend.

Burke Development Road from Walkers Creek near Howitt to the Mareeba Shire boundary has been closed in all direction due to heavy rain leading to flooding.

The road is also closed at Lynd River in Gamboola, Trimble’s Crossing in Wrotham, and Fergusons Crossing in Rookwood and from Four Ways to Leichardt River.

The road from Maramie to Dixie has also been closed in both direction due to major flooding.

On Thursday last week, many of the roads leading in and out of North West Queensland were closed after ex-cyclone Kirrily brought heavy rain and flash flooding to the region as it travelled south and diminished over the weekend.

The weather system has now dissolved but showers and possible storms are still predicted for much of the Gulf Country today and into the week.

A major flood warning remains for the Flinders river while flooding is no longer expected at Richmond and Cloncurry.

Moderate flood warnings remain for the Nicholson and Leichhardt rivers.
