Frank and Joy Parise remembered fondly after Atherton fatal crash

A Malanda husband and wife killed in a two-car crash outside Atherton have been remembered as a beautiful couple well known for their involvement with the Tablelands community.

A Malanda husband and wife killed in a two-car crash outside Atherton have been remembered as a beautiful couple well known for their involvement with the Tablelands community.

Frank and Joy Parise were towing a caravan behind their Landcruiser on Thursday, July 17 when the vehicle collided with a Subaru at the intersection of the Kennedy Highway and Malanda Atherton Rd.

Tragically, the 81-year-old and 79-year-old couldn’t be saved by paramedics and succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Following the crash, there has been an outpouring of compassion and condolences from the tight-knit southern Atherton Tablelands community.

A trustee of the LD Lucey Memorial Park said the Parises had one of the little huts outside Mount Garnet and enjoyed spending time in the area.

“They helped around the reserve. They are great people,” she said.

“They worked hard for what they believed in and it’s a terrible thing to happen. It’s a shock to everyone.”

A tiler by trade, Frank’s parents had a place in Redlynch in the ’50s and ’60s and he moved to the Tablelands when he got married to Joy, who worked as a bookkeeper.

There’s been a flood of heartwarming messages on social media as many share their grief at the loss of the highly regarded couple.

“So very shattered … such a beautiful couple, Joy lived up to her name and always made me smile, so kind …..an awful loss for family, friends and those whose lives they just lightly touched,” one friend wrote.

“This is an unbearable loss for their family,

“Our sincere sympathy to Mark and Noel and their families on their tragic loss.

“Frank and Joy will be missed by all of their friends, a great drummer and wonderful kindergarten teacher, thanks for the memories.”

Relatives and friends of Frank and Joy are invited to attend a celebration of their lives at the Mountain View Chapel in Atherton on Friday, August 1.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing and anyone with information or relevant vision is urged to contact police.
