With the iconic Cairns Amateurs Carnival just around the corner, Cairns Central is building excitement by encouraging attendees to draw inspiration from past Fashions on the Field winners when dressing for this year’s races.
Cairns Central, the official Fashions on the Field sponsor for this year’s Carnival, will host a retrospective exhibition this month featuring winning outfits from past competitions to celebrate the spring racing season.
Cairns Central marketing manager Louise Struber said this was her favourite time of the year, as the region comes alive with the excitement of the Amateurs event.
“We are proud of our long-term partnership with Cairns Amateurs, encapsulated by our Fashions on the Field exhibition,” she said.
Stores at the well-known mall will also be promoting their new season fashion collections, featuring outfits for springtime races, including dresses, gowns, and suits in various colours and styles.
Ms Struber said they hope the display will inspire racegoers to dress up for the major social events by highlighting the elegance and creativity of past winners while also providing a glimpse into the rich fashion history of the Far North’s racing industry.
“For shoppers, we trust this colourful floor installation will be a lovely walk down memory lane and insight into the constantly changing world of fashion,” she said.
Since securing the naming rights to Cairns Amateurs Carnival’s Fashions on the Field for 2024, the prominent retailer has also pledged over $15,000 in prizes across the two-day fashion competitions.
Cairns Amateurs Carnival Steering Committee member Rebecca Conlan said judges this year will ensure the event continues its tradition of lifting Far North Queensland’s racing fashion to a new level.
“Cairns Amateurs Fashions on the Field is the benchmark for racing fashion … and Cairns can mix it with the best,” she said.
Carnival ambassador Emma Scodellaro will be among those setting the fashion pace across both days, seeking outfits that showcase the wearer’s unique style, as well as the tropical springtime vibe.
Making up the Hall of Fame are previous Fashions on the Field winners Jaydee Paino, Di Stewart, Kymberlee Cockrem, Monique Locastro, Tim Marsh, and Yvette Thompson.
Ms Paino is best known for her winning look, a 1950’s-inspired ensemble featuring an $18 dress paired with a matching blue feathered hat design by resident milliner, Bernice Patton.
Shoppers can check out the exhibition on the ground floor near the Myer entrance until the end of September.
