A serious police incident has unfolded in a suburban Cairns street, with police locking down the area and residents unable to return to their homes.
Multiple police and ambulance crews were stationed outside a unit block at Barrett St in the city suburb of Bungalow for about five hours.
Residents attempting to return to their homes in the street were reported being turned away by police.
Neighbour Tania Kay said she was in her bedroom watching YouTube when her husband came “flying in through the bedroom door”.
He said “the cops have just cordoned off the street”.
“We honestly don’t know what is going on.
“Something is going down but we just don't know what.”
A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed crews were attending an incident after being called to the street this afternoon.
On Sunday morning a QPS spokesman confirmed that police were at the scene till “just before 11” and there was no threat to public safety during or after the incident.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesman confirmed they were called to the scene at 5.17pm on Saturday afternoon but were stood down by QPS.
“We left the scene and were not required to treat or transport,” he said
