A 14-year-old Bentley Park boy has been charged with a string of shop break-ins.

The boy allegedly smashed the glass of a Swallow Street business in the early hours of May 11 before stealing cash and cigarettes.

The boy was allegedly involved in four similar incidents where shop fronts were damaged and property was stolen from businesses across Cairns and Edmonton in April and May.

Police officers arrested the alleged offender at a Charles Street address on May 14.

The boy has been charged with four counts of enter premises, one count of attempted enter premises, and seven counts of breach of bail.

He was refused bail and was due to appear before Cairns Childrens Court on May 15.
