Builder's grand plans for wedding venue north of Toowoomba

AN AWARD-WINNING Toowoomba builder has gone to Toowoomba Regional Council with plans to build a wedding and functions facility amidst the hills of Ravensbourne.

AN AWARD-WINNING Toowoomba builder has gone to Toowoomba Regional Council with plans to build a wedding and functions facility amidst the rolling hills of Ravensbourne.

The proposal, the brainchild of Valdal Projects' Stuart and Emily Valdal, includes a large concrete, stone and glass catering venue for up to 200 guests, with a 180 degree view of the ranges.

There's also a smaller boutique-style venue proposed as part of the plans, connected to the renovated farmhouse which was Ravensbourne's original dairy.

Documents lodged with the council also show a proposed cafe.

Mrs Valdal said the venue's name "The Dairy", paid homage to the property's origins.

A second stage of the development will include contemporary eco villas running along the edge of the forest, "all with stunning outlooks", Mrs Valdal said.

The Valdals said the motivation for the development was not only to share the property's extraordinary vistas, but to engage with the region's recent growth.

"Within the last 3-5 years, Ravensbourne and neighbouring Hampton have seen a boost in dining experiences in the area, which is fast becoming a hotspot for people to take a drive from Toowoomba or even Brisbane," Mrs Valdal said.

"We're hoping to bring people from all over to hold their functions and events such as weddings, helping promote the area and increase tourism."

The project's development application, lodged with the council this month, is still in the confirmation period.
