Uniquely contributing to her family‘s long affiliation with horse racing, horse lover Brooke Higgins has been chosen as 2022’s Face of Weetwood.
The Audi Centre Toowoomba Face of Weetwood represents Clifford Park at all Weetwood events, including the Weetwood Gold Day, Breakfast With The Stairs, the Barrier Draw, the Calcutta Sportsman's lunch and, of course, the Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood race day.
Like much of her family, Ms Higgins has devoted part of her time to horses by retraining thoroughbreds off the track and giving them a life after racing.
The Higgins family history in horse racing includes the 27-year-old’s great grandfather who trained a Weetwood winner in 1957, her grandfather training many metropolitan winners, and her father winning Townsville and Mackay Cups.
Ms Higgins said she had applied for the 2022 Face of Weetwood competition because she wanted to continue her family’s long history in the horse industry and be part of it in her own way.
“It is nice to carry that Clifford name back through a different aspect of Weetwood … there’s the horse aspect and there’s the fashion aspect as well,” she said.
“I’ve always loved Weetwood day, it’s definitely a social event on my calendar each year.
“It‘s a really big privilege and something that’s very close to my heart.”
Toowoomba Turf Club Chairman Kent Woodford said the community was extremely proud of the event.
“Brooke, as the Face of Weetwood, will assist with raising the profile of the Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood locally as well as interstate.”
The Audi Centre Toowoomba Weetwood at Clifford Park is a historical racing event that has been run for more than 130 years, and this year’s event will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
