A SHOW of support from four major airlines has stirred things up within the Wagners camp ahead of Wellcamp Airport's upcoming public open day.
Qantas, Virgin Australia, Skytrans and Alliance have all signed on to have "a strong presence" at the event.
Wagners director Denis Wagner said 10,000 visitors were expected.
None of the airlines have formally committed to using the airport, but Mr Wagner said negotiations were under way.
"We are very excited to have their support at the open day and hope it won't be too long before we have formal agreement in place," says Mr Wagner.
The airport will be officially known as Brisbane West Wellcamp.
"People in Ipswich for example probably wouldn't consider flying out of Toowoomba, but by calling it BWW, it creates that link for them," Mr Gregory said.
"If we are cheaper than Brisbane, they will probably fly from Toowoomba rather than Brisbane.
"We also had in our mind the possibility of international flights in the future and wanted to give people not familiar with Australia an idea of where we are."
Locally, it is still expected to be known as Wellcamp Airport.
Country singers Tania Kernaghan and Amber Lawrence have been enlisted to head-up an attraction more akin to a carnival than a construction site.
Face-painting, machinery displays, food and drink stalls are on the cards alongside bus tours of the site and joy flights.
Mr Wagner said visitors would see the massive construction project getting under way before their eyes, including the rock-crushing and gravel base of the runway.
All materials used for the runway have been sourced onsite, taking "thousands of truck movements" off public roads.
More than 10 million tonnes of rock will be used before the project and its 2.87km runway are finished.
The Wellcamp Airport open day will be held on Sunday, November 24 from 9.30am to 4pm. Visitors are asked to provide a gold-coin donation to support Angel Flight.
