Woman dead in alleged DV stabbing in the Northern Territory

The woman’s male partner is expected to be charged over her death.

A woman has been killed in an alleged domestic violence stabbing in the Northern Territory, marking the 66th woman killed to predominantly male violence this year.

Police were called to a local clinic in Lajamanu in the NT — about 560km from Katherine — about 6.20pm on Monday following a report of a seriously injured woman.

A large crowd had also gathered, and the 42-year-old woman was declared dead at the scene.

Her 46-year-old male partner was arrested nearby.

He suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he was allegedly assaulted by unknown community members.

Major Crime detectives have taken over the investigation, with two crime scenes established.

The 46-year-old is expected to be charged with the woman’s death later this evening.

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

The death marks the 66th woman lost to predominantly male violence this year, according to Sherele Moody’s femicide watch.

According to Moody, the woman is the 13th First Nations woman lost to violence this year.
